Words of Hope

--

Amina stepped up to the microphones looking out at the anxious crowd gathered in the community center. As their elected leader, it was her duty to address the unrest brewing after months of perceived injustices. She chose her next words carefully.

“Friends, neighbors, family. I understand your anger and pain. Our rights have been violated and trust betrayed by uncaring leaders. But recall, we have overcome far greater trials than this before.”

Murmurs rippled through the room as people nodded solemnly.

Amina continued. “Our strength has always come from our unity. When we lift each other up, rather than divide against our own, we become more powerful than any injustice brought against us.”

“She’s right!” a voice called out. Another added “Together we can’t be broken!”

Bolstered by this, Amina went on passionately, “Each of you has gifts to share that make this community thrive. Artisans, teachers, leaders — you are the lifeblood here. Stay strong, stay peaceful, stay united in purpose.”

The fear and frustration seemed to lift from the people’s shoulders as she spoke. Amina smiled around at the crowd. “Together we will weather this challenge as we have every other threat. Our home stands so long as we stand together. Have hope, friends.”

A rumbling cheer went up as people embraced, reenergized. Amina nodded, heart swelling with admiration for the brave souls before her. With compassion and solidarity, they would overcome.
