Warriors of the Gates

The Trojan War was a long and bloody conflict
That started with a beauty contest and a golden apple
The goddesses Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite
Competed for the prize of being the fairest of them all
They asked Paris, a prince of Troy, to be the judge
And each offered him a bribe to sway his choice
Hera promised him power and glory
Athena promised him wisdom and skill
Aphrodite promised him the love of Helen
The most beautiful woman in the world

Paris chose Aphrodite and her gift
But Helen was already married to Menelaus
The king of Sparta and the brother of Agamemnon
The king of Mycenae and the leader of the Greeks
Paris stole Helen away from her husband
And sailed with her to his homeland of Troy
Menelaus was furious and demanded her back
But the Trojans refused to return her

Menelaus called on his brother and his allies
To join him in a war against Troy
They gathered a thousand ships and a hundred thousand men
And sailed across the sea to reclaim Helen
Among them were many heroes and legends
Achilles, the greatest warrior of his age
