The Subtle Art of Not Doing

--

In a world that praises constant motion,
Where busyness is worn like a devotion,
There lies an art, both old and new,
Of finding strength in what we don’t do.

The power of pause, the gift of rest,
Often overlooked, yet perhaps the best
Way to nurture soul and mind,
And leave the chaos far behind.

Not every moment must be filled,
Not every thought must be distilled
Into action, word, or deed,
Sometimes stillness is what we need.

To resist the urge to always act,
To sit with silence, that’s the knack.
In doing nothing, we may find
The answers that eluded our mind.

The tree that stands against the storm,
Bends with the wind, but holds its form.
It doesn’t fight, it doesn’t strive,
Yet in its stillness, stays alive.

So too can we learn from nature’s way,
To let some things just fall away.
Not every battle must be fought,
Not every lesson must be taught.

In letting go, in standing still,
We often climb life’s steepest hill.
For wisdom lies in knowing when
To step back, breathe, and start again.

The subtle art of not doing,
Is a path worth pursuing.
For in the spaces in between,
Life’s deepest truths can be seen.

So practice now this ancient art,
Of stilling mind and calming heart.
For in not doing, we may be
All that we were meant to be.
