The Last Tree

Lila had never seen a tree before. She had only heard stories from her grandfather, who used to live in a world where trees were abundant and green. He told her how they provided shade, oxygen, and beauty to the planet. He also told her how humans destroyed them with their greed and ignorance, causing a global catastrophe that turned the earth into a barren wasteland.

Lila lived in a bunker with her family and a few other survivors. They had a generator, a water purifier, and a small farm of hydroponic plants. They rarely ventured outside, because the air was toxic and the sun was scorching. Lila was curious about the outside world, but she knew it was dangerous and forbidden.

One day, she found a secret passage in the bunker that led to an old tunnel. She decided to explore it, hoping to find something interesting. She took a flashlight, a mask, and a backpack. She followed the tunnel for a long time, until she reached a metal door. She opened it and stepped outside.

She was greeted by a sight that took her breath away. In front of her was a large, lush, green tree. It had a thick trunk, a wide canopy, and countless leaves. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She ran towards it, feeling a surge of joy and wonder.

She touched the bark, feeling its roughness. She smelled the leaves, inhaling their freshness. She climbed the branches, feeling their strength. She sat on a swing, feeling the breeze. She felt alive, like never before.
