The Last Survivor
Jake woke up to the sound of gunfire and screams. He grabbed his backpack and his shotgun and ran out of his makeshift shelter. He had been living in an abandoned warehouse for the last two months, ever since the zombie outbreak had wiped out most of humanity.
He looked around and saw a horde of undead creatures swarming the streets. They were fast and vicious, unlike the slow and dumb zombies he had seen in movies. They had been created by a rogue biotech company that had experimented with a virus that enhanced brain activity and aggression.
Jake knew he had to get out of the city. He had heard rumors of a safe haven in the mountains, where a group of survivors had built a fortress and were working on a cure. He hoped it was true. He had no one left to care for. His family and friends were either dead or turned.
He ran towards his motorcycle, dodging the zombies that tried to grab him. He reached it and started the engine. He sped away, leaving behind a trail of blood and guts. He hoped he could make it to the mountains before nightfall. He knew the zombies were more active and dangerous at night.
He drove for hours, avoiding the main roads and taking shortcuts through fields and forests. He saw signs of destruction and death everywhere. Burned cars, crashed planes, collapsed buildings. He wondered how long it would take for nature to reclaim the earth.
He finally reached the foot of the mountains. He saw a sign that said "Welcome to Eden". He followed it and found a gate guarded by…
