The Great Escape
Max was bored. He hated being stuck in his room, doing his homework, listening to his parents nag him. He wanted to have some fun, some adventure, some excitement.
He decided to escape.
He waited until his parents were busy in the kitchen, making dinner. He grabbed his backpack and stuffed it with some essentials: a flashlight, a map, a sandwich, a bottle of water, and a comic book. He put on his jacket and his sneakers. He opened his window and climbed out.
He felt free and happy.
He ran across the backyard, jumped over the fence, and headed for the woods. He had always wanted to explore the woods, but his parents never let him. They said it was too dangerous, too wild, too far.
He didn’t care. He was brave, he was smart, he was adventurous.
He followed a trail that led deeper into the woods. He saw birds and squirrels and rabbits. He heard rustling and chirping and howling. He smelled pine and dirt and smoke.
He wondered what he would find.
He came across a clearing with a large pond. He saw fish and frogs and turtles. He heard splashing and croaking and hissing. He smelled water and algae and fish.
He decided to take a break.
He sat down on a rock and took out his sandwich. He ate it slowly, enjoying the taste and the view. He drank some water and felt refreshed. He opened his comic book and started reading.
