Remnants of Seasons Past

Scattered leaves and cigarette butts,

Remnants of a season gone by,

The autumn wind blows them away,

Like memories of a faded love.

They once were green and fresh and bright,

They once were lit with passion and fire,

But now they lie in piles of brown and gray,

But now they smolder in ashes and smoke.

What made them fall from their branches?

What made them burn from their tips?

Was it the cold that froze their veins?

Was it the heat that scorched their lips?

They had their moments of glory and grace,

They had their moments of pleasure and pain,

But nothing lasts forever in this world,

But nothing stays the same in this life.

Scattered leaves and cigarette butts,

Symbols of a cycle that repeats,

The winter snow will cover them soon,

The spring rain will wash them away.

But they will return in another form,

But they will ignite in another flame,

For nature has its ways of renewal,

For love has its ways of revival.
