Hatuey’s Fire (Burning Still)

Verse 1:
In the streets of San Juan, I feel Hatuey’s flame
Five centuries later, we’re playing a different game
But his spirit of resistance, it burns in my veins
Against new colonizers, our culture remains

Chorus:
Hatuey’s fire, it’s burning still
From Borikén to Cuba, we’ve got the will
To stand up and fight for our rightful place
Taíno blood, can’t erase our face

Verse 2:
Anacaona’s wisdom guides our modern fight
For land and water rights, we’ll stand day and night
Like Guarocuya in the mountains, we’ll never give in
Our heritage is strong, through thick and thin

(Chorus)

Bridge:
They tried to wipe us out, said we were gone
But like yuca in the ground, we’ve grown strong
From casino to courthouse, from farm to school
We’re reclaiming our space, we’re nobody’s fool

Verse 3:
Enriquillo’s rebellion echoes in our protests
Against environmental destruction and corporate interests
We’re fighting for our islands with phones and with signs
But the warrior spirit of old still shines
