Ego, The False God

--

In the cathedral of mirrors,
the ego stands tall,
a gilded idol,
bathed in the glow of self-importance,
worshipped in the shrines of social media,
where every post is a prayer,
every like a sacrament,
and the collective sighs,
lost in the echo of individual praise.

We chant the mantras of “I” and “me,”
the sacred verses of self-actualization,
as the cult of the self swells,
drowning out the chorus of “we”,
for in the elevation of the singular,
we forget the symphony of chaos,
the vibrant chaos that binds us,
the laughter and tears of the many.

Look closely, dear seeker,
at the fragile foundation of your throne,
for the ego is a mask,
a fragile façade that crumbles
under the weight of its own illusion,
and in the pursuit of power,
we shackle ourselves to the absurd.

What happens when the individual shines,
but the collective flickers and fades?
When the echo chambers of self-obsession
drown out the heartbeat of humanity?
We become mere shadows,
lost in the theater of our own making,
where the curtain falls on connection.

So let us peel back the layers,
strip away the gilded veneer,
and surrender to the wild dancing entropy,
the beautiful chaos of existence,
where we find strength in vulnerability,
and the truth that binds us all —
that in letting go of the false god,
we rediscover the divine in each other.
